Born in Belo Horizonte, capital of the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil, 34 years ago, Marcelo M. B., (a.k.a.) Marcelo Paganini is a composer, lyricist (portuguese, english and french), multi-instrumentalist, arranger, midi programer (since june 1985) and sound designer.
Marcelo Paganini is lucky enough to have his own home page on the Internet (http://perso.chello.fr/paganini/index.html) where infos, digitalized excerpts of songs, pictures and other stuff are available on-line. You can find his email address at the end of this text.
A convinced cultural anthropophagous, Marcelo Paganini devoures everything he likes: "serious" music (from Guilhaume de Machault to Pierre Boulez), improvised instrumental music, experimental music, Latin music, Indian music, Arab music, African music, chorinho, samba, baião and other brazilian rythms, mixed with blues, jazz, rock, jazz-rock, progressive rock, reggae, rap, acid-jazz, flamenco... Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Villa-Lobos, Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, but also Zequinha de Abreu, Dilermando Reis, Garôto, Waldir Azevedo, Luiz Gonzaga, Mutantes, Raul Seixas, Elis Regina, Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges, Beto Guedes, Cazuza... Be careful, you could be the next... Very early on in his life, Marcelo Paganini became an self-antrhopophagous as well, when, moved by necessity, he chose an electric guitar instead of a tape recorder. Maybe this can explain the particularity of his music.
He has not yet managed to squeeze all these influences in a single song,
but he keeps trying. Meanwhile, Marcelo Paganini records a demo tape for
each style he is fond of at the moment: brazilian (lack of) alternative
rock with lyrics in Portuguese, English, French; instrumental: cavaquinho,
pandeiro e violão; instrumental: with friends; abstract experimental
colages, and on and on... Only two demo tapes are available at the moment,
but with around 150 original compositions in the repertory and 49 released
"officially", it will take a serious amount of time to record them all.
1996 brought some good surprises, as one new demo tape "Paulo
Levi & Marcelo Paganini" and the cd independent
"Virtualmente real: Realmente virtual" came out...
